Toy Story 5 is now streaming on Disney+. Disney announced its Sept. 23 streaming debut on Aug. 27, and The Associated Press listed the sequel among this week’s new streaming releases.
The fifth Pixar film in the decades-spanning franchise brings Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie and the rest of the toys back to Bonnie’s room. This time, their attention battle has a distinctly modern rival: Lilypad, a new tablet device that arrives with its own ideas about what Bonnie should be doing.
Disney’s official synopsis calls the premise “Toy meets Tech.” AP’s Sept. 18 streaming guide describes it as a toys-versus-tech fight for Bonnie’s attention. That gives the sequel a familiar Toy Story question with a screen-era twist: where do toys fit when a tablet is competing for playtime?
Disney says Andrew Stanton directs and co-wrote the film, with Kenna Harris co-directing. The studio’s announcement confirms the Sept. 23 Disney+ debut; the service’s listing is the place to check availability in your region.
For viewers who missed the theatrical run, the streaming release brings the latest chapter home. Its tablet-centered premise also gives the long-running franchise a current piece of everyday technology to play against its classic toys.
